Measuring for Curtains

How to Measure the Width:

  • Measure the window width from outside of the trim. Then, add extra room you wish to have on each side (we recommend 6" on each side for 12" total). This is your width (measurement A).

  • If your rod is already installed, measure the length of the rod (do not include the finials). This is your width (measurement A).

For curtains with casual headers, the curtain width is when the fabric is laid completely flat. To have proper fullness, we recommend the curtain width to be 2x to 2.5x times the curtain rod width.

For curtains with pleated headers, the fabric is already sewn to have the proper fabric fullness baked in. Therefore, you can just purchase curtains with the actual curtain rod width.

How High You Should Install the Rod:

  • We recommend you follow the 2/3rds rule. Mount the rod 2/3rd of the space you have above the window. For example, if you have 6 feet above the window, then mount the rod 4 feet above the window.
  • Another option is to mount the rod on the ceiling or as high as possible. This creates the most dramatic visual effect.

How to Measure the Height:

  • Measure from the top of the curtain rod to where you want the fabric to stop. This is your measurement B.*

How much you should add or subtract from the top:

    Header Style Add or Subtract

    Grommet

    Rod Pocket

Add 1.5" to account for where the rod would be inserted

    Back Tab

    Tab Top

0" (do not add or subtract)
Pleated Subtract ring diameter (ex. 2") since the fabric will hang from below the rings

How much you should add or subtract from the bottom:

    Hanging Style Add or Subtract

    Kiss the Floor

0" (do not add or subtract).

Curtains just barely touch the floor, creating a tailored and polished look.

    1/2" Above the Floor

    Subtract 1/2".

Curtains hang slightly above the floor to create a crisp and neat appearance. This style is very practical and is easy to clean.

    Puddle

    Add 2" (or more fabric).

Curtains create a "puddle" of fabric on the ground to create a highly luxurious or romantic look. Best for formal spaces as it requires more maintenance.

    Example:

Measured Height (B) Header Style Add or Subtract Hanging Style Add or Subtract Final Curtain Height
    96" Pleated - 2"  Kiss the Floor 0" 94"

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Use mild detergent. Do not bleach. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Cool iron if needed. Avoid direct exposure to high heat to maintain the fabric's delicate texture. Spot clean or dry clean recommended for best results due to the fabric’s heavier weight and texture.
